Abstract
The most of patients with the sliding esophageal hiatal hernia have no symptoms. But it is clinically significant when complicated with reflux esophagitis, peptic esophageal stricture, and pulmonary complications due to abnormal gastroesophageal
reflux.
The sliding esophageal hiatal hernia is the most common cause of the abnormal gastroesophageal reflux.
The gastroesophageal reflux is not uncommon in infants and children, and vomiting, growth retardation, and recurrent pulmonary infection are well-known clinical manifestations.
During the past decades, many of lower esophageal sphincter-enhancing operations to prevent reflux have been worked out; Belsey Mark IV repair, Hill posterior gastropexy, and Nissen fundoplication. But the Nissen fundoplication is the procedure that has received the most widespread acceptance because of its simplicity and high rate of success.
We experienced one case of sliding hiatal hernia complicated with gastroesophageal reflux, with good results. by Nissen fundoplication, and we reviewed literatures regarding its etiology, clinical manifestations, diagnostic procedures, and results.
